What's that? Back so soon to Frosting A Cupcakery? Well we lurves cupcakes and they lurves us! (So we like to think, but it is definitely in a friends with benefits sorta relationship - and the cupcakes are really taking advantage of us!) So Team Seangie (sans Stevie the Wonder Intern since we sent him to do some work) got our haffa doz to get our nommy on to make sure this Frosting place is legit on the nommy factor. (In that 2 Legit 2 Quit manner, with all the hand signing and all ala MC Hammer.)
Triumph of the day - I remembered to use one of my Groupons. And I got 6 cupcakes for the price of 3! EVEN BETTAH! So I went into Frosting on their Tuesday cupcake menu and was excited for my selection. I was really there to try the 'lectric Pink Lemonade, but of course I cannot just get one cupcake! I struggled on choosing my haffa doz of cupcakes, but many thanks to the girl behind the counter - she was really patient with my oooooo-ing and uhhhhh-ing (insert mouth watering action here) and helped me choose between the dark choco or white choco Raspberry Zzzurberts (awesome name BTW!)
*******************************************
The Seangie Om Nom Nom Rating Chronicles (on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the nommy-est)
'NILLA ' NILLA: vanilla bottom with vanilla buttercream top (the cupcake in the picture above with the blue fondant 'f')
TADA Factor: 3.5
Flavah Flav Creativity: 2.0
Frosting: 4.5
Cake: 4.0
NOTES: This was a Seangie palette starter. In fact I would like this to make this our traditional palette starter from now on. We were pretty wow'ed with how well executed this simple cupcake was. It is often that most cupcakeries that we have frequented in the past just don't put any effort into the most simple cupcake as they are too busy with all the other fancy schmancy flavors they need to work on, but we were really happy at our delightful 'sewprise' that the simple cupcake wasn't the ugly red-headed step-child. Kudos to you Frosting.
APPLE OF MY PIE: apple spice bottom with vanilla caramel buttercream on top
TADA Factor: 3.5
Flavah Flav Creativity: 4.0
Frosting: 4.5
Cake: 4.0
NOTES: It's a NUBBINS! This cupcake sure taste like pie! I think Cartman would tell him maaaaam to go into the kitchen to make him THIS kinda pie - A CUPCAKE PIE! As you can see the score here is not representative how I feel about bread and spice cake cupcake bottoms. I lurves them and Sean is iffy about them, but this is my blog so I'm going to say it was AMAZEBALLS! The cake was "moistfull" and not over spiced and matched with the perfect bite of vanilla caramel buttercream. PURE NOMMY-NESS.
'LECTRIC PINK LEMONADE: pink lemonade bottom with a pink lemonade top.
TADA Factor: 5.0
Flavah Flav Creativity: 5.0
Frosting: 4.25
Cake: 2.75
NOTES: This is was the cupcake du jour I wanted to eat for a fine Tuesday afternoon. Team Seangie lurves lemonade (usually in an arnold palmer form) and this was the refreshing palette cleanser that we were looking for. Once we started to inhale our cupcaks, we discovered that an even bite of frosting and cake is needed to consume this specific cupcake. Tasting the frosting and cake separate or in uneven ratios of frosting vs cake, does not yield perfect om nom nommy results. We felt that maybe this cupcake should have more of a tarty element, maybe some lemon zest or something like that? But then again it is PINK lemonade which is usually on more of a sugary side, if that was the intention then I totally can smell what they were stepping in with the creation of this Pink Lemonade Cupcake. But the real disappointment part was the cake, it was a bit dry - but still tasty and passable. All in all a good palette cleanser, good creativity, and nommy frosting.
BABA'S BABY: carrot bottom with vanilla cream cheese buttercream top.
TADA Factor: 3.5
Flavah Flav Creativity: 2.5
Frosting: 4.0
Cake: 4.25
NOTES: YUM! Carrot cake! And it has veggies! Say Whaaaaaat? Sean was scared of this cupcake and I have no idea why, and again let's just say he is a veggie bread virgin. But after tasting this I think he realized what he was missing out on! Another great execution on a classic, and I think I could really eat a whole doz of these things. And I think Team Seangie could eat 2 dozzies!
REDiculous: red velvet bottom with vanilla cream cheese buttercream top.
TADA Factor: 3.25
Flavah Flav Creativity: 2.5
Frosting: 3.75
Cake: 3.5
NOTES: Hey! Is that RedVelv crumbs on top of the frosting? Sean couldn't decide whether they were being green or cheap. I want to say green, I mean when we eat these cupcakes and crumbs fall, we both try to put the crumbs back on the top! So doesn't it make sense that they just do that too? As my fixed variable of cupcake-dom, this RedVelv cupcake was pretty average, the cake was a touch dry, but the combo of cake and frosting was still pretty delicious!
RASPBERRY ZzzURBERT DARK CHOCO: devil's food bottom with raspberry buttercream top.
TADA Factor: 3.5
Flavah Flav Creativity: 3.5
Frosting: 2.25
Cake: 3.0
NOTES: You know when you have sushi and you made the bad mistake of putting too much wasabi on your sushi and then your eyes bug out and you do an OMG gasp for air? Well that is what happened when we had this cupcake, the frosting was too sweet! We did enjoy the fact that the frosting was smooth and not grainy (like all of Frosting's frostings) and that we could taste the raspberry flavor, but the high sugar content distracted us from truly enjoying this flavah combo. Bummer.
All in all, another nommy time at Frosting A Cupcakery. One or two hit or misses, but still lots of nommy-ness! HOLLA!
